Columbia has decided to open up its top level domain, .co, to people outside its country. It is expected that the .co would be nearly as popular as .com domain names as it is a common abbreviation for the word, ‘company’.
The registration for the general public will be available as of 20 July 2010. You should consider applying for a .co domain name before 10 June 2010 if you own the trademark of your domain name. This would prevent unethical domainers from cybersquatting on what should have been your domain name.

In this guide, we learn to forward your domain name to any website address you want. Domain name forwarding means that you point your domain name to a website; not to forward your domain name on an email!
This is especially useful if you want to use your domain name for:

We all know that some website providers just don’t allow you to use DNS or CNAME to point your domain there.
Excellent to transition you existing visitors on the old domain name to the new one. For example, to move from OldDomain.com to NewDomain.com, I will forward OldDomain.com to NewDomain.com.
Before we begin, please note the web address of the website you want to forward your domain name to. Then follow the instructions, step-by-step.
1. Go to GoDaddy.com and login at the top of the page.
2. Click on ‘Domain Manager’ on the sidebar (in the red circle).
3. Click on the letter ‘D’ (circled in red) to the right of your domain name to launch the dashboard.
4. Click on “forwarding’ to initiate the domain name forwarding feature.
5. Type in the URL (e.g. facebook.com/logish) of the website you want to forward your domain name to. Then click ‘OK’.
That is all. Your domain name (e.g. yourdomain.com) will not point to the website you desire. Remember to share the domain name with your family and friends!

Many of us should be familiar with Blogger’s blogging platform. In fact, some of you may already run personal or interest weblogs on Blogger (aka Blogpot).
Do you know that Blogger.com allows you to use your domain name as your blog’s web address? You are no longer stuck with having yourname.blogspot.com as your web address!
Here’s how.
Firstly, you must already have a blog on Blogger. If not, just create a blog now.
Thereafter, follow the step-by-step instructions to point your domain name to your Blogspot blog (with your GoDaddy.com account).

After completing step 2, you will see the domain manager in your GoDaddy account as shown below.
The Total DNS Control here will show up after you complete step 4.
When you do complete the instructions, please note that it takes up to 72 hours for the DNS settings to propagate. It usually takes much lesser time. This is the same for every domain name.

Conventional phishing attacks are usually done by email.
Upon receiving an email claiming to be from Facebook (for example), you click the link inside. Unbeknown to you, the link shown on the url bar is not facebook.com. And you enter you login information. You account will then be compromised by the fake site.
Most people will no longer fall for this phishing attack since a lot of awareness has been created about this.
However, the latest in internet security news has it that there is a new form of phishing termed as ‘tabnapping’.
Let’s use Paypal for the below example.
What happens with tabnapping is that you visit a seemingly innocent website. When you move on to visit another site on a new tab, that website will change into a fake Paypal site. Most of us who surf the web with multiple tabs will not realise this and when we switch the tabs back, we would believe that we have forgotten to login to Paypal and login. This is how your account information will be compromised and in this case your Paypal funds will be gone.
You can see an example of tabnapping on the site belonging to Aza Raskin (the creative lead of Mozilla Firefox). See what happens a few seconds. On that very same site, Raskin has explained how tabnapping works and provided some tips to prevent yourself from being a victim.
I’ve especially highlighted tabnapping here at Logish Empire so that you will safeguard all your information sensitive accounts. This includes your domain name registrar accounts.

All domain names are registered through registrars (e.g. GoDaddy, Namecheap, Dynadot, etc.). They are created during the registration process for a fee of around $10 per year. And can be renewed yearly for the same amount.
Even though you can register new domain names, you can buy existing domain names from domain resellers/investors.

There are many domain name registrars on the internet. These are the few whom I have dealt with: GoDaddy, Namecheap, Moniker, Dynadot and Name.
The one registrar that I highly recommend would be GoDaddy.com. GoDaddy has one of the most intuitive domain management system and have discount deals that make the domain name less than $10 a year. Their customer service is excellent and has resolved issues that were due to my carelessness.
In any case, the advantage of acquiring a domain name with a registrar is being only charged the standard annual fee (e.g. GoDaddy’s fee for .com before discount is $10.69). This is lower than that of a domain trader’s price.
Domain Name Traders
A domain trader would sell a domain name at a mark up of the standard fee.
They are certainly justified to do so. A domain trader’s inventory of domain names are well selected for natural traffic and brandability. They are often quality domains.
What do I mean by quality domains? How can the quality of a domain name be better if it has existed for a few years and is now being resold?
Domain names sold by domain traders are likely to have relevant traffic. The domain name may even have been used for a website before. This would mean very valuable traffic for you. Search engines also tend to rank older domain names better. So, you get a quality domain name, which your visitors will remember. Definitely worth the money.
It seems to me that the best place to get affordable (if not downright cheap) domain names from traders is from Ebay. Try the Logish Empire Domain Search Store!
However, be sure to check the seller’s feedback and reputation when dealing on Ebay.
Domain name registrars are involved no matter how you acquire your domain name. Be sure to dig up news on your registrar. I was reminded by a commenter, Thor, about registrars with unethical practices.
This includes registrars that hijack their customer’s domain name and registrars that impose fines on customers due to supposed ‘abuse’ of policy.
Remember, no registrar is perfect and are bound to have dirt on them. But too much dirt may prove to be a problem.
Just stay away from NetworkSolution. Do not even search for domain names on their site. There are accounts of them registering searched domains, to prevent the person searching from registering the domain elsewhere.
If in doubt, stick with the domain name registrars I have dealt with and recommended.
Also, when dealing with domain traders, maintain reasonable skepticism over their reputation unless they have proven themselves otherwise. Check their trader’s reputation, Ebay reputation, Paypal reputation or anything that verifies that they are true to their word when they transact.
