Columbia has decided to open up its top level domain, .co, to people outside its country. It is expected that the .co would be nearly as popular as .com domain names as it is a common abbreviation for the word, ‘company’.
The registration for the general public will be available as of 20 July 2010. You should consider applying for a .co domain name before 10 June 2010 if you own the trademark of your domain name. This would prevent unethical domainers from cybersquatting on what should have been your domain name.
Registrars like GoDaddy have already opened themselves for.co application. More details can be found on the .co registrar’s website.
